CBS Careers Evening 2017
On November 23 2017 CBS Kilkenny hosted a Careers Evening for TY, 5th and 6th year students. A small group of hardworking people led by Mr Donal Higgins organised a phenomenal fair which saw more then 75 careers represented by parents, past pupils, commercial supporters and many others. The Parents Council provided a superb welcome feast for our career representatives on their arrival. The evening gave students the opportunity to meet with a wide variety of legal and medical professionals, artisans, tradespeople, emergency service personnel, engineers, retailers, marketers, counsellors, craftspeople, hoteliers, entrepreneurs, financial advisers, recruitment specialists, animators, web designers, educators, graphic designers, electricians, etc........ the list is endless!
The evening was a mastery of planning and organisation, with special thanks going to the team of students who acted as guides for our visitors.
The photos below provide a snapshot of the incredible atmosphere which pervaded the four hosting rooms.
Sincere thanks to Donal Higgins, Tom Clarke, Claire Brennan, Lucy Ryan, Thérèse Healy, John Bourke, Lucy Heary and Vivienne Crowley, for a terrific job well done.

COLLEGE AWARENESS WEEK
Keep an eye on the noticeboards for Careers Information this week, College Awareness week, 20 - 26 November 2017.
This is a significant week for college awareness in CBS Kilkenny.
Monday 20th November WIT’s department of Computer Science gave a fascinating presentation to 1st year and 2nd year students. Mr David Power explored the "Internet of Things" with the boys and explained how many career options were available to students from an IT and computing background. He encouraged them to work hard at their maths in particular and their other subjects areas and the world was their oyster. UCD’s Ms Jean McQuillan gave a detailed presentation to 5th and 6th year students. She covered the courses available, the facilities and scholarships which can be considered by students. She encouraged them to do their research through all the sources of information available to them. Tuesday 21st November Ms Ryan attended the South East Future Skills Forum. This provided a fantastic insight into the career possibilities available to school leavers, from craft and new apprenticeships to graduate positions after college courses. Encouraging students to apply their studies to the workplace, to become fluent in languages and to talk to people in a variety of careers was a key message from this event. Thursday 23rd November A major careers exhibition will take place in the school for all senior cycle students from 6:15pm – 9:15pm. This initiative has been coordinated by the Parents Council in collaboration with the Principal, Guidance Counsellor and school staff. With more than 80 stands attending, this is a wonderful opportunity for the boys to get first hand advice from those working in a vast array of career areas. |
