At Junior Certificate the students sit a practical drawing exam at the end of third year which accounts for the total assessment.  The topics covered include:
  • Orthographic Projection
  • Rotations
  • Solids in contact
  • Developments
  • Axonometric Projection
  • Translations
  • Conic Sections

Design & Communication Graphics
At Leaving Certificate the students sit a practical drawing exam at the end of sixth year which accounts for 60% of the marks and a drawing assignment worth 40% is completed in class in sixth year between September and January. The portfolio based assignment (maximum of fourteen pages) will focus on the investigation of a prescribed artefact, research into a particular design and the representation of the design as both a rendered freehand drawing and a representation of the artefact on Solidworks. The second element of the assignment is to make some improvements to the existing design or create a concept design for the object.

The topics covered include:
  • Projection Systems
  • Interpenetration of Solids
  • Conic Sections
  • Plane Geometry
  • Structural Forms
  • Geologic Geometry
  • Assemblies.
