Opening Mass 2017 - 2018
On Thursday 24 September 2017, the CBS community came together in the beautiful setting of St Mary's Cathedral to celebrate the start of the 2017 - 2018 school year. As is tradition, Ms Dowling, Ms Evison and the music department greatly enhanced our enjoyment of the celebration.
The theme of the mass was "Using our Time". We all are given different amounts of time, but the real difference is in how we use it. We prayed that we would make valuable use of our time, that we will share it generously with loved ones and God and that we would use it wisely to develop the gifts we have been given.
School chaplain Fr Jim Murphy welcomed all students and staff and said that this was his 22nd time to celebrate this opening mass with CBS Kilkenny. He advised students and school staff of the great benefits to be found in patience, pride and partnership. With some 'foreign' acorns from across the Irish Sea, he compared the life of an oak tree to the life that lay ahead for our young students. To nurture this life would require patience, pride in one's work and a partnership approach - all things that can be found in great abundance in CBS Kilkenny.
Principal Tom Clarke welcomed all staff and students, particularly our First Year students, and he wished them all a happy six years in the school. He said that many opportunities lay ahead for them, and that all members of the school community would help them to realise and nurture their talents. He told them that generosity with time and talents were hallmarks of CBS Kilkenny students and he thanked all the congregation for the giving of their time.
Mr Clarke expressed his sincere thanks to all who contributed to the mass, particularly to Ms Kehoe and the RE department for preparing a wonderful liturgy, and to Darragh Roberts and David Power for their great camera work.
