OPENING MASS September 2019 - Never climb a mountain on your own!
On Friday September 20 2019, the school community of CBS Kilkenny gathered to celebrate the 159th anniversary of the opening of the school on September 24th 1860. The theme of this year's mass, in the beautiful surrounds of St Marys' Cathedral, was "Shine the Light of Jesus". Chaplain Fr Jim Murphy welcomed all members of the community, new and old, and advised the congregation that the Korean martyrs are being remembered across the world today. He also told us a story of misfortune that befell him when climbing a mountain on his own. The lesson he learned and wished to impart to the young men in front of him was threefold:
Principal Tom Clarke warmly welcomed our new First Year students and new staff to CBS Kilkenny. He wished them well in their efforts. He also congratulated and thanked retired members of staff, Ms Nuala Walton and Ms Mary Meaney, who have given many years of excellent service to CBS Kilkenny. Eoin Maguire of the Student Council presented the two ladies with a token of appreciation and wished them well on behalf of all of the students who they have helped over the years.
Mr Clarke thanked the wonderful choir and musicians and Ms Dowling and Ms Evison for enriching our ceremony and Ms Maher and the Religion department for organising a moving and uplifting service.
We look forward to a busy, happy and productive year ahead.
- Never climb a mountain on your own - we all need each other
- Always try to follow the right path - seek guidance from God when in doubt
- Always strive to do our best - even in the face of adversity
