SCHOOL CLOSURES FEB and MAR 2018

Please find below the content of a letter which was distributed to all students on Feb 7 and Feb 8 2018.
Dear Parent/Guardian,
During the 2017/18 academic year, we have had two full day closures for students to facilitate staff training in preparation for the implementation of the new curricular programme at Junior Cycle.
There are a number of other significant changes currently being implemented at secondary level which will unfortunately also impact on student tuition time. There are obligations placed on schools to facilitate full staff training in the new Child Protection procedures and the Dept of Education and Skills (DES) is introducing changes in school middle management structures which will necessitate some further school closures.
In CBS Kilkenny, some of the training will be happening outside of school time through the use of the Croke Park hours but, because of the various competing demands of Parent-Teacher meetings, staff meetings and staff CPD, there is a limited amount of time remaining within the Croke Park hours allocation for the 2017/18 academic year.
The Board of Management regrets that the school will be closed at 1pm on Monday, 26th February and again at 1pm on Friday, 2nd March 2018 to facilitate these staff obligations. While the Board is very conscious of the loss of tuition time every effort is being made to minimize it.
Yours sincerely,
Tom Clarke
Secretary, Board of Management
