Student Council News 2013-14
Motivation Week, Jan 2014
Motivation week ran in the school from Monday 20th of January to Friday 24th, 2014. It was organised and run by the Student Council. It was a very successful week with plenty of activities and workshops for the student population.
Karl O’Reilly from Aware came in to facilitate workshops for Senior Cycle students on the theme ‘Beat the Blues’ and Junior Cycle workshops on the themes of Positive Thinking and Self-Esteem. According to students, these workshops were very practical and they gained a lot from them.
There were a number of competitions organised throughout the week and there was a great response from the student body. The main competition was ‘Inspirational Quotes’. Students were asked to put forward their favourite inspirational quotes with a short explanation of why it was so special to them.
Another competition was the ‘Complete the Quote’ competition. Each morning one half of a famous quote was announced over the intercom and students had to put the completed quote in the box at the front hall along with the favourite quotes.
There were also two online entry competitions. There was a photo competition with the theme of ‘My Happy Place’ and a short essay competition for students on their ‘Most Inspirational People’.
Prize-giving for Motivation Week took place on Friday afternoon 24th January. Congratulations to all the prize winners and a thank you to our fellow students who participated in what was a very proactive and beneficial week for all in CBS Kilkenny.

STUDENT COUNCIL NEWSLETTER: OCTOBER-JANUARY 2014
On behalf of the Student Council we would like to give you a brief summary of our work in the Council over the past few months.
Shortly after the Student Council Elections were held in early October, all new members of the Student Council attended a Leadership Training workshop facilitated by Mr. John Murphy (Director Leader Training at FRS Training). Without doubt it was a very worthwhile and valuable experience for all.
Before Christmas we had the Festive Treats Cake Sale and as a result of this we raised €236 for our local St. Vincent de Paul. We also donated any unsold items to the Good Shepherd Centre (Homeless Shelter) in Kilkenny. We would like to thank you for your generous support of this worthwhile fundraiser.
This week on Thursday 16th January, the Student Council are organising a non-uniform day. All donations will be used in the organising and running of future Student Council initiatives.
Next week we are organising ‘Motivation Week’ in the school. At Senior Level, we have invited a guest speaker from the organisation ‘Aware’ to deliver a positive mental health workshop ‘Beat the Blues’. At Junior Cycle, speakers from Ossory Youth will deliver workshops to students on themes such as Positive Thinking, Positive Self-Esteem and Confidence Building.
Finally although we have a busy schedule ahead of us over the next few months we would welcome your ideas and suggestions on any activities/events that you think might benefit the school community. Remember to use the Student Council Suggestion Box located at Student Council Noticeboard outside Room 15.
Remember! You have a voice, let it be heard.
