Kilkenny CBS Student Council co-host ERST Conference.
On Wednesday the 25th of March 2015, Sean Heary, Daniel O'Connor and Alan Power co-hosted the ERST (Edmund Rice Schools Trust) conference held in the Red Cow Moran’s Hotel, Dublin. All CBS schools in Ireland were represented at this event. The aim of the conference was to nurture and develop the leadership of students’ councils, guided by the ethos of Edmund Rice. The three students from Kilkenny CBS Student Council delivered excellent presentations on the Zambian Immersion Project and Cycle Against Suicide. They also shared ideas on the various projects that they have undertaken through their involvement in the Student Council.
The ethos of Edmund Rice is still very much alive in our ERST schools as evidenced at the conference.

Student Council's Festive Treat Cake Sale 2014
Just before Christmas last year we, the Student Council, organised the annual festive treats cake sale on 19th December 2014. As a result of the Student Council’s efforts and the generosity of the student body, more than €150 was raised for our local branch of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
A huge effort was made by the members of the Student Council to ensure the success of the sale and to later present a cheque of €200 from the festive treats sale to the local branch of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
A huge thanks must also be offered to our sponsors - Keogh's, The Gourmet Store, Kilkenny Café, Dunnes Stores and Blaa Blaa Blaa - who made this cake sale possible and without whose help would not have resulted in the success that the sale was. We are also very grateful to our fellow students for buying the many treats on offer and hopefully will repeat the same process to the same extent in the future years.

Presentation of Student Council Badges to Members of Student Council 2014/2015
At the commencement of our first official Student Council meeting today, 17th November 2014, we were presented with our Student Council Badges by our principal, Mr.Clarke. Mr. Clarke welcomed us and thanked us in anticipation of the work we hope to achieve this year. He suggested areas that he would like the Student Council to become involved in and hoped that this present Student Council would continue with the various initiatives that have been put in place by previous Student Councils over the past number of years.

Leadership Training Workshop for Student Council Members, October 2014
On the 21st October, Mr Pat Murphy came to our school to provide advice and support to the newly elected Student Council 2014/2015. We learned much from Mr.Pat Murphy and his vast experience in establishing and maintaining Student Councils over the years, proved beneficial to us.
Over the course of his ‘Leadership Training’ module we elected officers to be responsible for the various roles in the Council and the traits required for these positions were outlined. Mr Murphy talked us through the steps of holding a Student Council meeting and the importance of a cooperative environment where each member of the council can contribute equally. Lastly, Mr Murphy staged a practice meeting where we went through in detail the sequential events of a meeting, addressing issues raised by other students through the suggestion box and the organisation of upcoming events.
We found the leadership training a fruitful experience and we all have a better understanding of our respective roles. We are very grateful to Mr.Pat Murphy for giving us his time, expertise and guidance.
