Music Workshop part 2

1/12/2016

On Monday 28th November TY Students got another opportunity to improve their drumming skills, unlike the previous week this session was based more on using instruments rather than rhythm games. Students were divided into groups and assigned instruments like bells or drums. The main objective was not to learn how to play a musical instrument but to play like an orchestra so different instruments at different times. After hard work spent practicing by the end the class was able to perform a brazilian tune called ‘Congo’.

Students really enjoyed the 2 weeks of this workshop especially those interested in studying music for their leaving cert and I think everyone would agree that this is a workshop all transition years across the country should do.

Music Workshop Part 1

On Monday 21st of November Transition year students attended the music room for a musical workshop. The workshop was 80 minutes long per class and involved rhythm games. Students had to perform an action one after another until it reached the last person in the line, students particularly enjoyed the activity where they had to stand up and repeat the instructor's actions, this proved more and more difficult as this went on as he added more actions to remember. Towards the end of the workshop pupils got the chance to play some of the musical instruments laid out in the centre of the room. This was by far the activity the students were most looking forward to from the moment they walked into the room. Students were each assigned an instrument such as drums. By the end of the workshop each class could perform a piece of music.

Students really enjoyed this workshop and are looking forward to part 2 on Monday 28th November

TY Work Experience

1/12/2016

All TY Students were searching long and hard for the perfect places to get the best work experience possible. They went through that struggle to help themselves to decide what career they want in the future. Work experience begins on the 12th and ends on the 23rd of December. Students can go anywhere from retail to medical care. Students who go on work experience will get their insurance forms the week before they go there. This will give students a great insight into the life of a worker.

These are the main points students should be aware of when going on work experience:
-Know your route to work.
-Research the company.
-Get at least 8 hours of sleep.
-Wear suitable clothing.
-Find out if you need to bring lunch.
-Make sure you give your insurance form to the employer.
