Wellbeing Week in CBS Kilkenny 2018
As part of Wellbeing Week in CBS Kilkenny (12/3/18 - 16/3/18), we were delighted to welcome Richie Sadlier to speak to our senior students. Many of our students are familiar with Richie as a soccer pundit on RTE and are aware of his distinguished soccer career with Millwall and with the Republic of Ireland.
However, his visit with us today was in his capacity as a psychotherapist. Richie trained as a psychotherapist after his retirement from soccer and is especially interested in working with adolescents. In his talks with our 5th and 6th year students Richie shared many of the difficulties and challenges which he faced as a young player pursuing his career abroad. He gave a candid account of some of the low moments which he experienced and revealed his reluctance to seek help or share his discontent with anybody.
In telling his story he underlined the importance of seeking support when feeling overwhelmed and of making good lifestyle choices to help maintain our wellbeing. Ultimately, his story is one of resilience and strength and was a great reminder to the boys to trust in the support of others and in their own ability to persevere.
Richie was very generous with his time and wisdom and fielded many wellbeing related questions from both senior groups. No doubt there will be elements of his talk which will resonate with the boys as they face sporting and wider life challenges in the future.
